The Transportation Problem – Optimization of Flour Deliveries to Bakeries According to an Operations Research Algorithm — Przegląd zbożowo-młynarski 2021-4
The article addresses the problem of optimizing flour transportation from mills to bakeries in order to minimize total transport costs. The author shows that this issue belongs to the field of operations research, specifically the transportation problem, which is a type of linear programming model. In the technical part, a mathematical model is presented including decision variables describing transported quantities, constraints related to supply limits of mills and demand requirements of bakeries, and a cost function minimizing total transport effort (expressed in km·ton). The model uses systems of linear equations and inequalities and is solved using optimization algorithms implemented computationally (e.g. Python PuLP), supported by distance matrices and tabular data . As a result, an optimal transport plan was determined that satisfies all constraints while minimizing total cost. The article demonstrates that linear programming methods in operations research, such as the transportation algorithm, enable efficient logistics planning and rational decision-making in supply chains. https://sigma-not.pl/zeszyt-6653-przeglad-zbozowo-mlynarski-2021-4.html
